Before you mail your scholarship application be sure that you have met all of the requirements which are listed below:

 

The Rev. John H. Scott Memorial Scholarship Checklist

Checklist for Applicants:

  • You are a candidate for graduation at a public high school in Richland, Tensas, Madison, West or East Carroll Parish.

  • You have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above.

  • You plan to attend a four-year college by fall 2009.

  • Your application is completed and signed.

  • *You have included an essay and one letter of recommendation.

  • You will be available to attend the public program in Lake Providence on the first Saturday in May.

  • You have included a recent photograph of yourself.

     *The Essay. The late Reverend Scott was a minister of the gospel who resided in East Carroll Parish until his death in 1980.  He believed that people of God should stand up for their human and civil rights and for those of their fellowmen and that they should resist and never be satisfied with unfair treatment.  In an essay of 1-2 typewritten pages, tell why you would like to be awarded a scholarship that memorializes the life of this Christian Activist.

     The Letter of Recommendation.  Someone who can attest to your character and scholarship should write the letter.

     The Deadline.  All application material should be mailed together and must be postmarked by April 5th.
